From 9 to 24 July the Adelaide Guitar Festival program will feature world-class artists celebrating the world’s most popular instrument in all genres. We’ve surveyed the C44 office and here are our top picks!

  • This Time It’s Personal: In a world exclusive, the multi-ARIA award winning godfathers of Australian rock and roll, You Am I, are throwing down the gauntlet to Spinal Tap’s legendary bass player Derek Smalls [the alter-ego of Harry Shearer (A Mighty Wind, The Simpsons)] as he makes his Adelaide debut in a show that’s sure to shake the foundations of Her Majesty’s Theatre.
  • Joe Camilleri, legendary Black Sorrows frontman, commemorating his incredible milestone fiftieth studio album, plus lots of Black Sorrows hits, supported by Lecia Louise, a thrilling guitarist and multi-instrumentalist of accomplished virtuosity in rock, blues, alt-pop and jazz.
  • Songs Told of a Land of Gold: Two ground-breaking musicians come together for a night of kick-arse alt-country with a whole lot of heart. Multi-Golden Guitar and ARIA award-winner Fanny Lumsden and beloved troubadour Jimmybay expertly weave together stories and song, and set themselves apart as the future of country music in Australia.
  • Adelaide Guitar Festival On the Road: an incredible lineup of local artists touring ten regional SA towns to present free community hall concerts.
  • El Corazon del Flamenco: a double-bill of Spanish flamenco star Jose Maria and Victoria’s Arte Kanela in one exhilarating, spirited evening of flamenco and classical guitar.
  • Sketches and Orchestrations, a complete celebration of classical guitar,  featuring international sensation Xuefei Yang, Riverside Guitar Ensemble, and the Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra.
  • Foundations of Shred: A blazing homage to the forefathers of shred! Local guitarist and composer Cam Blokland goes back to the 80’s with this tribute to the origins of the speed-oriented rock guitar style known as “shredding”, summoning Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen and more.
